Budget Analysis – August 2020

August was different for me. In the last 13 years, this was the first month I spent $0 on food. Also, the first month in a very long time, I didn’t eat even once. Let’s see how I did in August.

SourceProjected($)Actual($)DIFF (%)
Full-Time & Side Jobs $6,500 $6,225 -04.23%
401K / HSA Contributions $2,820 $2,820 +0.00%
Rental Income $1,350 $1,556 +15.26%
Other Income $200 $766 +283.0%
Total $10,870 $11,367 +7.03%

It’s incredible how much you can save when you don’t have to pay for your food and don’t eat out at restaurants.
I spent 45% less than the actual planned amount. There were two categories where I didn’t spend money. I also made more money than I spent on the miscellaneous category as I got a refund for some items I returned.

CategoryProjected($)Actual($)DIFF (%)
Housing $1,409 $1,409 +0.00%
Utilities $182 $0 + ∞ %
Food/Supplies $450 $0 + ∞ %
Personal Grooming/Medical $260 $38 -85.38%
Transportation $1,815 $315 -82.64%
Miscellaneous $200 -$153 + ∞ %
Rental Management $1,750 $1,767 +1.00%
Total $6,166 $3,376 -45.24%

Income for the month stayed pretty consistent compared to the last month. However, the expenses were much lower.
FIRE would be a lot closer if I had never had to pay for food or housing.

Total Income $10,870 $11,367 +4.57%
